Asbestos
Current state and federal regulations require asbestos inspections by accredited inspectors prior to any renovation or demolition work. In addition, there are very specific requirements for managing asbestos in all school buildings.
Asbestos was used in many different kinds of building materials such as insulations, resilient flooring, plasters, ceiling tiles, roofing, siding, adhesives and many other miscellaneous materials. In addition to the health concerns arising from personal exposures to asbestos, the presence of asbestos can also result in significant financial and legal liabilities and disruption to businesses operations, renovation or facility maintenance activity, demolition, and real estate development.
To avoid possible health risks and costly disruptions to business, the first step is identification and assessment of asbestos. It is important to note that just because asbestos is present, it doesn't necessarily mean that it must be removed; in fact, it may only require some form of abatement if the materials are damaged or if the asbestos will be affected by some form of renovation, demolition, or other facility maintenance activity that will results in a disturbance to the asbestos.
